Today Show Team Doing ‘A Lot Of Soul Searching’ As They Worry Recent Segment With Nancy Guthrie Made Her ‘A Target’

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

Just under three months ago, Savannah Guthrie returned to Tucson, Arizona, for what was meant to be a tender, nostalgic moment on the TODAY show.

The segment was framed as a love letter to her home, and a quiet tribute to family, roots, and the desert city that shaped her. It aired back on November 5 — and at the time, it felt gentle, warm, and deeply personal.

Part of what made the segment resonate was the appearance of Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie. At 84, Nancy joined her daughter on camera, raising a toast to Tucson and describing the town she’s called home since the 1970s as laid back and gentle.

You can rewatch the segment from back then for yourself (below):

But now, that same segment is being looked at through an entirely different lens.

Behind the scenes at NBC, concern is allegedly mounting that the feature may have unintentionally put Nancy in danger.

Of course, Nancy was allegedly abducted late Saturday night from her home in Tucson’s affluent Catalina Foothills area. She has not been seen since. When she failed to attend church the next morning, family members became alarmed. They later discovered blood droplets on the doorstep of her home — a chilling detail investigators say points to foul play.

And now, according to insiders, employees at the daytime TV show are getting concerned that their feel-good in-home segment could have inadvertently put Nancy in the spotlight.

A TODAY show source spoke to DailyMail.com about it on Thursday, claiming:

“There’s a lot of soul searching at NBC about whether their segment made Nancy a target.”

It’s a devastating thought.

In the video from back in November, Savannah described the segment as a heartfelt love letter to Tucson, the city she moved to as a toddler and where her family built their lives. The segment didn’t reveal Nancy’s address or show her home, but it did place a spotlight on a private woman connected to a very public figure.

After Nancy’s disappearance, the same source added:

“People around here [at NBC] are going to think twice before putting their family on television at all.”

The segment was part of a broader initiative highlighting the personal backstories of TODAY anchors. And in fact, one of its most emotional moments showed Savannah sharing a meal with her family, including mom Nancy and Savannah’s sister Annie, at a local Mexican restaurant.

In a voiceover, Savannah spoke about family being her favorite part of Tucson. Nancy followed with her own reflection on why she chose the city decades ago, praising its air, quality of life, and gentle pace. Those words now feel heartbreakingly ironic.

Another disturbing angle on Nancy’s apparent abduction could involve Savannah’s so-called super-fans. Investigators are reportedly reviewing years of gifts, letters, and correspondence sent to Savannah by random people. NBC insiders say the network is also cooperating closely with law enforcement to identify any troubling interactions.

The TODAY source told the DM about that:

“Savannah has received many weird emails and social media messages over the year. If she thinks that they’re threatening or dangerous, she usually forwards them to the producers.”

They added that the talk show host typically receives:

“…a few [weird messages] a month.”

And now, here we are. Ugh.

A tip line has been set up: see HERE. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie, and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
