Savannah Guthrie is getting some words of wisdom about her beloved mother’s disappearance from a man who lived it.
The father of Elizabeth Smart, who you may remember as the 14-year-old girl who was abducted from her Utah home and who was found alive nine months later in 2002-2003, is speaking out. Ed Smart went on Fox & Friends on Thursday to express from his own point of view why he thinks Savannah and her fam making that video — in which they spoke directly to her alleged captors — was so important:
“Talking directly to those that have taken her, the abductors, is crucially important. That they know that they’re trying to comply with everything that’s being said, that they want to resolve this and bring their mother home.”

The Guthries reportedly have no way of communicating with the writer of the ransom note, which makes their public attempts to connect with the alleged kidnappers even more necessary.

Ed went on to recall the most painful thing about his daughter going missing, and also applied it to Nancy:
“Not knowing is one of the worst things out there. Not knowing what Elizabeth was going through, how was she was surviving, and all of these questions, of course, apply to Nancy.”
Oof. It’s so, so hard being left in the dark.
See the clip (below):
We continue to send love to Savannah and her family, and hope for Nancy’s safe return.
A tip line has been set up: see HERE. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie, and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
