Selenators think they’ve got Single Soon figured out!
ICYMI, on Friday Selena Gomez released a new song ahead of her upcoming SG3 era. Her much-anticipated third studio album isn’t quite ready yet, as she revealed in an Instagram post earlier this month:
“Y’all have been asking for new music for a while. Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer.”
Now she’s given her fans a little taste of what’s to come — and, we gotta say, if the rest of SG3 has Easter eggs like this, we’re gonna be decoding them for a while!
In the new track, the 31-year-old singer belted out lyrics that fans are convinced are connected to her 2017 romance with The Weeknd. In the visual, as Sel writes a note to leave behind for her lover, she can be heard singing about how she’s going to break up with the person she’s seeing:
“Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note? / In the pocket of his coat? / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here”
The weekend’s almost here?!

So… does that mean she was kicking out her current boo because her former flame — AKA Abel Tesfaye — was coming over? On top of that, the 33-year-old has a song called Save Your Tears, which could be connected to the previous line about not wanting to see a tear… OMG. This can’t be a coincidence?? Right??
See the video for yourself (below):
Also of note? Fans were quick to point out the sticky note also read “I’m sorry I can’t don’t hate me” obviously in reference to Sex And The City! Ch-ch-check out some of the TikTok comments by internet sleuths (below):
“Selena literally says the weekend is here as she puts the note down ”
“I think she’s talking about The Weeknd in that little part. The game controller remote and if you google there’s videos of him teaching her to play.”
“Who else thinks this is about The Weeknd?”
“AND THE WEEKEND IS HERE AS SHE PUTS THE NOTEEEEEE”
One X (Twitter) user even went as far as suggesting she left the Blinding Lights musician for her ex Justin Bieber — and that’s what the song is referencing:
“Omg is SINGLE SOON about when she broke up with The Weeknd to get with Justin Bieber?”
Wow! This WOULD be before Justin called it off completely and married Hailey Baldwin — and we all know how rocky the actress’ relationship has been with the both of them — so the timelines do line up. But who’s to say?
A very inneresting choice seeing as how The Weeknd has recently come under controversy for seemingly using Selly as his muse for The Idol. Hmmm….
