Charli XCX is going to war on Twitter over comments that she made about Kim Petras.
The Crash pop star took to the social media platform on Friday (July 7) to respond to RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Cynthia Lee Fontaine, who took issue with Charli offering an opinion on Kim‘s debut album Feed the Beast before she listened to it.
Instead of listening first, Charli shared her opinion based on Pitchfork’s review of the album and her experience with Kim, who she has previously collaborated with.
Her opinion, shared via an Instagram story post in late June, focused on where Kim was at as an artist in the midst of amassing a following and finding mainstream success.
Cynthia referred to the decision to weigh in before listening as “cringe,” prompting a heated response.

Replying to Cynthia, Charli explained why she felt qualified to weigh in on Kim‘s release.
“I chose to comment not on another persons review but on my experience of Kim as an artist whom I’ve collaborated with many times,” she wrote. “Artists are so much more than singular albums. Great artists generate culture and conversation that transcends music. I am giving my thoughts on Kim’s current position as an artist in 2023 through the lense of my own personal experiences. Don’t try with your f-ck s-it with me.”
Cynthia came back equally hot. “Don’t you dare trying to teach me how artistry work,” she wrote. “I’m aware how it works . But the music [business] and culture and interaction derives not just only on comments between colleagues , but also your own criteria, point of view and personal expertise . Do better ignorant !”
At the time of publishing, Charli has not offered another rebuttal. However, fans were going wild over the argument.
“Charli XCX arguing with Cynthia Lee Fontaine was not on my 2023 bingo card,” one person tweeted, perfectly summing up the moment.
On the topic of Kim, she recently revealed that another pop star helped her learn English.
