The news is particularly exciting given the production’s dramatic backstory. The role of Fanny was originally given to Beanie Feldstein, who was praised by critics for her comedic performance, but criticized for her singing abilities. It was subsequently announced that Beanie would exit the show early and was set to be replaced by Lea.
When she completes her final run on Sept. 3, Lea will have played 599 Funny Girl performances and 30 previews. The production set several box office records during its engagement.
Earlier this month, we revealed which of Lea‘s Glee co-stars have been to see her as Fanny Brice, as well as her castmates who have indicated that they won’t be going. Find out more here.
