Camila Alves McConaughey is opening up about her husband, Matthew McConaughey‘s, personality.
The 41-year-old model and designer married the 53-year-old actor in 2012 after six years of dating. The couple have three children together.
“When we first start dating, it was this image of Matthew of getting high, laid back, no shirt, whatever,” Camila said while appearing on Southern Living‘s Biscuits & Jam podcast.
“Which I’m like, ‘The guy doesn’t even smoke. What is this vision coming from?’” she added.
Camila explained that Matthew is “like his mom” in that he’s “very organized, very minimalistic, very on time, very prepared, and he gets a lot of those traits from her.”
Camila also talked about her relationship with her mother-in-law Kay, who would speak in broken Spanish and call her by Matthew‘s ex-girlfirends’ names.
“She did all these things when I first came in the picture, right? She was really testing me. I mean, really testing me,” Camila said.
The two went “back and forth” a lot, as Camila recalled that she “brought my spicy Brazilian, Latin side, and I let her have it.”
However, Camila shared that over time, her relationship with Matthew‘s mother has greatly improved.
“And then from that day on, that night on, we have the most amazing relationship, and I have so much respect for her,” Camila said.
If you didn’t know, Matthew was once estranged from his mom for 8 years and he revealed the reason why.
