HBO Cancels 'The Idol' After Just One Season

The Idol will not be returning for a second season, as HBO has cancelled the show just after one season.

The series starred Lily-Rose Depp as pop star Jocelyn, who after suffering a nervous breakdown, is determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America.

Her passions are reignited by Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye), a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?

In a statement about the cancellation via THR, a spokesperson said, “The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, and Rachel Sennott also starred.

There was a lot of criticism over the first season of the show, and it resulted in a shortened 5-episode only season.
