Anna Kendrick is celebrating the “proudest moment” of her career in absentia.
The 38-year-old Pitch Perfect actress made her directorial debut at the world premiere of her new movie Woman of the Hour during the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday (September 8). However, she opted out of attending due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Instead, a producer issued a speech that Anna wrote, which acknowledged the exciting professional milestone and expressed support for creators in Hollywood.

“I truly can’t express how proud I am to have the world premiere of Woman of the Hour at TIFF. It is more than a dream come true. I am heartbroken to not be with you all in this moment,” Anna wrote, via People.
She recognized the “extraordinary” cast, which includes the likes of Daniel Zovatto and Kathryn Gallagher.
“I so wish they could be there to be celebrated in the way they richly deserve,” she opined. However, “As proud as we are of this film, we are equally proud to stand with our union in demanding fair wages.”
Anna expressed so much gratitude, saying, “I’m grateful to every single person who gave their energy to making this film. And I’m so excited for an audience to see their hard work on the big screen.”
If you missed it, the actress made a surprising revelation about her likes and dislikes earlier this year.
