On X (Twitter) on Thursday, the self-proclaimed Mayor of Flavortown shocked fans when he released a video saying he was tired of being Guy Fieri for so long — so for his 58th birthday, he transformed into “just a guy.” See the video (below):

But why did he do this? There had to be a reason, right? You’re correct. Per People on Monday, Guy did this for an upcoming Bosch ad we’ll be able to watch during the Super Bowl. While speaking to the outlet, he said:

“If you’re going to go big, go big. They said, ‘Well, can you shave your goatee?’ And I said, ‘I would for this. This is such an important commercial. This is such a big deal.'”

Ha! He was all in!

A spokesperson for Bosch also confirmed no AI was used in the making of this video:

“Guy’s birthday post is not AI. The video was shot with Guy Fieri himself, and the Justaguy transformation was achieved using high-end post-production visual effects.”

The look is just so new for him, so many people were skeptical! And fans weren’t the only ones convinced this wasn’t real. His own mom didn’t recognize him! He said:

“I sent the picture to my mom and she said, ‘Who is that?’ She said, ‘It really looks a lot like you, but I know it’s not you.’ I said, ‘Mom, that’s me.'”

That’s how you know the makeup artist did an exceptional job!!
