Catherine O’Hara Joked About Her Own Mortality Nearly A Year Before Her Sudden Death

Catherine O’Hara made a very eerie joke almost a year before she died…

The actress sat down for an interview with The Los Angeles Times in March 2025, along with her The Studio co-stars, Seth Rogan, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders, to promote the new series. At one point during the conversation, journalist Matt Brennan asked the group:

“As actors, do you feel like you have more of a say at least, if not power?”

The question prompted Catherine to joke:

“I’ve been treated that way lately. Am I dying or something?”

The quip caused her castmates to laugh, with Seth adding:

“This is how we wanted to tell you. This man’s actually a doctor. This is a fake interview.”

Little did any of them know that we’d be saying goodbye to Catherine nearly one year later. The Schitt’s Creek alum passed away on Friday “after a brief illness.” She was 71.

According to reports, she was having difficulty breathing that morning in her Los Angeles home and was taken to the hospital “in serious condition,” where she sadly died hours later. Oof. That’s what makes this interview so chilling now to watch…

Rest in peace, Catherine…
