Kelly Clarkson Says She Had ‘Too Much On’ Her Plate To Continue Talk Show!

Kelly Clarkson is just too busy for her talk show these days!

Earlier this month, the 43-year-old singer announced The Kelly Clarkson Show would be ending with the current seventh season later this year. The news didn’t come as a shock to many, as rumors were circulating for months that Kelly wanted to step away from the show.

It all started last year when the American Idol alum suddenly missed several shows amid reports she was sick of the grueling schedule, dealing with HR fights, and more. Then, her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died following a secret battle with skin cancer last summer. After the tragedy, many had a feeling the announcement was coming soon.

Kelly is now further explaining her decision to leave. In an interview with The Today Show on Friday, the Because Of You artist explained she wanted to be with her children, River and Remy, more:

“Well, I think everybody probably gets the timing, but… yeah, our family life, the dynamic changed a bit and it has changed for a minute now. I think it’s just — you’ve got kids, we’ve all got kids, right? — it’s one of those things when you kinda start seeing life as how precious it is, too.”

Losing her ex-husband and the father of her children will definitely put things into perspective! Although the talk show is ending, Kelly isn’t disappearing from the public eye for good! She is booked and “busy,” serving as a judge on Season 29 of The Voice, starting her Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions – The Las Vegas Residency again this summer, and more. And that’s part of the problem — she’s perhaps too busy at this time! So, due to the intense commitment, the talk show ultimately ended up on the chopping block:

“I’m really busy. We were talking at dinner last night. I was like, ‘I know everybody thinks oh, she’s quit.’ I still have other jobs! So I’m still doing stuff. There’s just too much on the plate, so I was like, ‘You know what, it’s time to kind of pull back.’”

However, the decision to quit the show wasn’t easy! She shared that it was “really hard” because of how well the series was doing:

“And, honestly, you know — I work with a lot of people here, too — the crew’s been incredible. It wasn’t the show wasn’t doing [well], that’s what kind of sucked. It was like, everything was going well, that’s what was really hard. And it’s like people’s jobs. We are a family there as well, so that was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a momma. But it’s a big deal for our team.”

It’ll be sad to see Kelly go, but she made the right decision for herself and her family at the end of the day! Watch the interview (below):
