Marie Osmond is opening up about the heartbreaking death of her son Michael Bryan Blosil who committed suicide in February 2010.
While speaking with her cohosts of The Talk on Tuesday, the 59-year-old revealed her son, who was 18 at the time of his passing, was “heavily” bullied before he died by suicide “because of his sobriety.”

Miz Osmond shared (below):
“I have never spoken about this before. So, my son who died, he was bullied. He was bullied very heavily right up until the time he committed suicide because of his sobriety.”
She goes on to explain that she still has “the texts” apparently sent by bullies to her son prior to his death:
“I mean they are horrendous, and I never took action against. But, I can tell you, honestly, I believe that that was a high component in him just feeling overwhelmed and that he didn’t fit in. I never took action against the three kids. I know who they are. But, you know, maybe it’s not a bad idea to have some kind of consequence because it’s getting out of hand.”
Cohost Sheryl Underwood explained some laws which now exist in states such as Tennessee to protect minors against cyber-bullying, and inquired if Osmond would have taken action then if such laws had existed. In response, the country music artist explained (below):
“In my heart I feel they know what they did, and they have to live with that consequence. And that’s kinda where I have stayed on it. But maybe it will help other kids that don’t think much about it, take it seriously.”
Marie continued, sharing:
“And you have to remember that an 18-year-old child doesn’t have the ability to process rationally like a 50 or 60-year-old person, or even a 40-year-old person. They don’t have enough life, or enough under them to sustain when they feel it’s overwhelming.”
Rumer Willis chimed in with her own bullying story:
“I got bullied very very badly in school when I was younger, like very badly, and I truly don’t know what would have happened to me if I grew up right now. The issue is the systemic bullying, especially with social media, that people think it’s ok. I don’t think the boys, or whoever did this should be prosecuted, because that’s just taking away two more kids’ lives and not actually teaching them.”
