Nice Guy Feud! Tom Hanks & Henry Winkler Apparently HATE Each Other!!

Henry Winkler and Tom Hanks have a lot in common.

They were both big TV stars in the early ’80s, they both have have prestigious acting awards, and they both consistently top lists of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

And yet, they f**king hate each other!

Yep, it’s one of the most surprising conflicts in Tinseltown, and it’s been going on for three decades!

Winkler confirmed the long-rumored feud on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night. A caller asked if it was true the two didn’t get along on the set of Turner And Hooch.

The Barry star first played coy, jokingly pretending not to have heard the question:

“What did you say?”

He then revealed the upshot of the feud to Andy Cohen, who was shocked to hear any of this, saying:

“I was directing that movie for thirteen days and then I was called into Jeff Katzenberg‘s office, and he said, ‘You have everything with you? Go home.'”

Damn! That’s in keeping with what we’ve heard.

Winkler added:

“I got along great… with that dog.”

Andy asked if he’d ever seen the movie, and Winkler totally pulled a Mariah Carey and said he didn’t even recall the film’s title.

Ha! The Fonz has still got it! See the whole interchange (below)!

For those who don’t know, Turner And Hooch is a 1989 buddy cop movie about a detective (Hanks) who has to babysit a murder witness — who happens to be an enormous, drooling French mastiff.

The movie was a big hit, but not for Winkler, who was replaced on the film by Roger Spottiswoode, though it’s never been revealed why.

For whatever reason, the two sterling examples of show biz sweetness just couldn’t get along — and at that time Hanks was the bigger name by far, having just made, appropriately, Big the year before. Winkler isn’t saying outright Hanks demanded he be fired… but if one had to go, for the producer that’s an easy call.

Innerestingly enough it was acting with Winkler which led to Tom Hanks’ big break. After a couple years in the sitcom world, Hanks got a guest star role in a 1982 episode of Happy Days in which he played a man hellbent on fighting The Fonz.

Winkler’s costar and good friend Ron Howard was so impressed with the performance he made him the lead in a little comedy movie he was directing about an average joe who meets a mermaid. 1984’s Splash was one of the biggest hits of the decade, and a star was born.

But was a diva born as well? Why did the two comic actors have such a tough time together??

We guess they’re both still too nice to say… but not enough to patch things up either.
