Well, here we go again.
Donald Trump is back on the attack, and this time the target is none other than longtime New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman. If you follow political media even a little bit, you know Haberman has been one of the most prominent reporters covering Trump for years. And apparently that fact alone is enough to send the president into another public meltdown.
Over the weekend, Trump took to his favorite online megaphone, Truth Social, to blast the veteran journalist in a post that quickly got people talking. And by talking, we mean cringing.

Trump shared a photo of Haberman along with a nickname that is… well… extremely on brand for him. The jab was harsh, personal, and very much in line with his long history of going after reporters who cover him critically. He wrote:
“Maggot Hagerman, just another SLEAZEBAG writer for The Failing New York Times, insists on writing false stories about me, even though she fully knows and understands that the exact opposite of anything she says is usually the truth.”
Yikes.
Maggot? Seriously???
But he didn’t stop there, because when Trump gets going, he really gets going. The president went on to float the possibility of dragging the reporter into drama tied to his ongoing legal battle against the New York Times. He added:
“In any event, I’m thinking of adding Maggot, and some of her ‘associates,’ into my Florida based Lawsuit against The Times which, very happily, seems to be proceeding nicely. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT.”
At the moment, it’s not entirely clear what specifically triggered this latest rant. Haberman’s most recent article about Trump ran more than a week earlier, on March 5, and focused on the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. She also appeared on CNN last Thursday to discuss the administration’s handling of the Iran war during a segment with fellow White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins.

Oh, and if Collins’ name sounds familiar in this context… that’s because she’s also been a frequent Trump target. In one tense Oval Office moment earlier this year, Trump told the CNN reporter she was “the worst reporter,” criticized her for not smiling enough, and accused her network of being dishonest.
In fact, the president has had a busy stretch of sparring with lots of female journalists lately. Just last month, he snapped at Washington Post reporter Natalie Allison during an exchange on Air Force One, criticizing both her “attitude” and her paper’s readership numbers before allowing her to continue asking a question.
And the pattern goes back even further. In recent months Trump has also insulted CBS News’ Nancy Cordes, New York Times reporter Katie Rogers, and Bloomberg journalist Catherine Lucey.
So, Haberman is hardly the first reporter to find herself on the receiving end of one of Trump’s wrath. Still, threatening to pull a journalist directly into a lawsuit? And offering up such a rude nickname, to boot?! That’s a new twist in the ongoing feud between the president and the press. WOOF!!
