There’s been a lot of speculation about Michael Jackson’s psyche ever since he was accused of child sexual abuse.
Now, Elton John has shared his thoughts on the late pop superstar in his new memoir, Me, in which he labels MJ as “mentally ill” and “disturbing to be around.”
The Your Song singer had been friends with Jackson early on in his career when the Jackson 5 frontman was in his teens. But over the years, Sir Elton said he grew concerned with the musician’s odd behavior and how he started to “sequester himself away from the world.”

The Grammy winner wrote:
“I’d known Michael since he was 13 or 14… He was just the most adorable kid you could imagine… But at some point in the intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world, and away from reality the way Elvis Presley did.”
Elton claimed he eventually thought Jackson had “totally lost his marbles,” writing:
“God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking the poor guy had totally lost his marbles… I don’t mean that in the light-hearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.”
Shedding some light on the bizarre behavior he saw in MJ, Elton recalled a time he invited Michael to one of his parties — where the star allegedly wandered off and was found playing with his housekeeper’s son. This caused Elton to postulate:
“For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all.”
Inneresting. This could partly explain the unsettling molestation allegations Jackson was posthumously accused of by two men who were backup dancers for him when they were children.
We mean, if Jackson was truly unable to socialize with adults, he could have also been unable to have sexual relations with adults. Of course, this is all speculation and his alleged actions are reprehensible either way — but if he really was “mentally ill,” should the blame be put on MJ or the team who enabled that alleged behavior?
Needless to say, it’s also possible Jackson, who suddenly died of an overdose of sedatives administered by his personal physician in 2009, wasn’t suffering from mental illness in the first place.

After all, Elton has already been accused of fabricating reality in his new memoir by his younger half-brother Geoff, who claimed the crooner vilified their father, Stanley Dwight, in the autobiography.
Elton claimed in his book Stanley failed to support his career choice, and never told him he loved him or was proud of him. But Geoff, 53, has since claimed his famous half-brother only chose to “believe what he wants to believe” and seems to have suffered “massive memory loss.”
He told The Mirror:
“I don’t understand because my mum, my dad and me, we all went to see him as his guests in Liverpool. That was definitely a concert, my dad was definitely there, he was definitely playing and we definitely watched it. I was five… Either he has got massive memory loss and he genuinely thinks his dad hasn’t seen him in concert or maybe he wants to believe that… My dad was proud of him, you could see when Elton popped up on TV, his eyes lit up.”
Meanwhile, Elton said of his dad in the book:
“I don’t recall [my father] ever coming to see me play live, or talking about music with him. What I was doing clearly wasn’t really his thing.”
Hmmm…
What do U think about Elton’s MJ claims, Perezcious readers? Could the star have really been suffering from some sort of mental illness? Share your thoughts in the comments.
