Cody Simpson Defends ‘Wonderful’ Miley Cyrus After Her ‘You Don’t Have To Be Gay’ Comment: ‘People Took That The Wrong Way’

Cody Simpson has unmasked himself as a very dedicated boyfriend!

The Golden Thing singer appeared on the Aussie program The Project on Tuesday night to discuss his big win on Australia’s inaugural season of The Masked Singer, on which he was unmasked and revealed to be the Robot.

The 22-year-old spilled all the tea about his covert stint on the hit singing competition, revealing he agreed to be the Robot from the get-go because it was the easiest costume to move around in. Sneaky!

Naturally, the hosts of the show didn’t take long to address Codester’s love life, which all of social media knows revolves around his longtime crush Miley Cyrus. After the hosts put up a recent steamy IG pic of Miley grabbing her boyfriend’s junk, Cody couldn’t help but blush while mentioning how his mother reposted the picture on her own account because she “was young once.” LOLz!

But things got serious for a moment when Cody had to put on his boyfriend beanie and defended Miley from the backlash she faced after telling her fans in an Instagram Live chat “you don’t have to be gay.”

As we reported, the Mother’s Daughter singer took to social media to clarify her comments, noting sexuality isn’t a choice and that she still considers herself to be part of the LGBT community. (Just more of a B then an L, evidently.)

The 26-year-old wrote on her IG Stories:

“I was talking about sucky guys, but let me be clear, YOU don’t CHOOSE your sexuality. You Are born as you are. It has always been my priority to protect the LGBTQ community I am apart of. Happy Monday!”

Cody, for his part, echoed his “wonderful” girlfriend’s sentiment during his Tuesday chat on The Project.

With a serious expression, he told the hosts:

“Yeah she… people took that the wrong way I think… Absolutely you don’t choose who you fall for or who you love, whatever gender or who you are.”

The Aussie musician knows what he’s talking about. After all, he didn’t *choose* to fall in love with Miley when he was a 9 year old boy watching Hannah Montana. It just happened!
