Her new ad campaign released just in time to sync up with Sunday night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which documented the rebranding process of her company. As you’ll likely recall, the brand was originally called Kimono, which sparked MAJOR pushback from critics. She shared:

“My intention wasn’t ever to offend anybody. Foolishly and ignorantly, we never thought that it would be a problem.”

But it was a letter from Daisaku Kadokawa, the mayor of Kyoto, Japan, which helped her take the situation “really seriously” and ultimately change the name:

“He was very thoughtful and very kindly explaining to me the meaning of kimono and why that’s so important to their culture. Reading that letter, I felt an understanding. I definitely did not want to disrespect a culture. That’s not what the brand is even about — it’s about inclusivity, it’s about comfort, it’s not about making people uncomfortable.”

Following backlash after the launch, the mogul issued a public apology statement:

“When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind. My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always.”

Mrs. West admitted to KUWTK cameras it was “frustrating” once controversy began to pour in that she and her team didn’t realize the potential implications of cultural appropriation ahead of time, but quickly wanted to make things right:

“I just feel kind of dumb. Like, why didn’t we think about this? It sucks that it’s so public and that everyone can see the mistakes of the brand as they’re live, but I’ve got to just calm down. Everything happens for a reason.”

After a bit of teamwork and head-scratching, the new name was finally decided upon:

“I need a name that really does speak to me the way that Kimono did. [SKIMS] is easy, it works, it flows. I just know that this is the right thing to do.”

What did U think of the infomercials, Perezcious readers? Would you buy SKIMS after seeing them? LOLz! Sound OFF (below) in the comments with your take!!
