Scooter Braun Breaks Silence On Taylor Swift Feud, Laments ‘Time Of Toxic Division’ On Social Media

For the first time, Scooter Braun is finally speaking out about all the drama that’s gone down involving Big Machine Records and Taylor Swift this month.

The 38-year-old music manager and entertainment mogul was speaking at Variety‘s 2019 Entertainment Industry Conference on Thursday, when he opened up a bit about the ongoing controversy over the 29-year-old superstar’s music catalog. And to hear him tell it, Braun appears to be crafting the appearance of a man who’s very worried about the bigger picture.

Talking to those in attendance at the event, Justin Bieber‘s manager lamented the current-day environment on social media, and how toxic it’s become as a place to fan the flames of controversy. Braun told Variety’s Shirley Halperin (below):

“I just think we live in a time of toxic division, and of people thinking that social media is the appropriate place to air out on each other and not have conversations. I don’t like politicians doing it. I don’t like anybody doing it. If that means that I’ve got to be the bad guy longer, I’ll be the bad guy longer, but I’m not going to participate.”

Interesting… doesn’t it seem like Scooter is kind of comparing Taylor to Donald Trump in that comment, though?! Sad!!!

The manager continued from there, noting that he’d prefer to have a private conversation with Swift where the pair could resolve their “miscommunications” rather than add “to the narrative,” in his words.

And he had more to say about the role social media is playing in inciting people to react strongly every time a high-profile controversy occurs, adding (below):

“It’s hard because I can handle it pretty easily, but when it gets to a place where there’s death threats and there’s offices being called and people being threatened, it’s gotten out of hand. Right now, we’re in a scary time where people say things and then people might not be in the right mindset and do really horrible things. We’re inciting all of this by continuing these arguments in public. We just need to go behind closed doors and see if we can have a conversation. And if we’re not having conversations, then I don’t think we’re going to find resolution.”

Yes, t’s a good take about dialing back some of social media’s worst impulses, BUT…

Just because the manager may be right about the social media environment in general, it does not mean he’s behaved all that nicely regarding the purchase of Swift’s master recordings right out from under her — as she puts it. Braun can be both things — correct about this social media stuff and an a**hole regarding his behavior towards Swift — all in one. Just saying!!!

Anyways, more to the point with what he said about the country-turned-pop princess: what do U think about Braun’s request to have a private conversation with Taylor, y’all?! Should she oblige him and have a one-on-one about all this controversy? Or is that just a trap?? Is she going public because she knows execs can be toxic behind closed doors??
