Apparently, the almighty dollar could be to blame for Justin Hartley and Chrishell Stause‘s recently announced separation!
As we previously reported, news of their split first broke on November 22, which is the same date Miz Hartley listed on her official divorce filing. But there seems to be some confusion as to when they actually called it quits, because the This Is Us star dates their breakup as happening months earlier on July 8!
Since the couple has been spotted out on multiple occasions between July and November, we were all a bit puzzled by this attempt to re-write history, but Chrishell seems to have a pretty good idea of what’s going on.

Per TMZ, sources connected to the Selling Sunset star say she’s calling BS on the July date he listed. Apparently, she believes he may have a new deal in the works where he stands to gain a significant amount of cash and he doesn’t want to share the spoils with her.
Say it ain’t so!!
So, just how much money could we be talking here? For reference, once the acclaimed NBC series was renewed for a third season in 2018, the leading cast members saw their rate per episode jump. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the 42-year-old’s skyrocketed from $75k to $250k. In total, he’s bringing home (or not) around $4.5 million per season!
But Chrishell wants to get what she believes she’s owed out of all of this. Per legal docs filed by her lawyer Samantha Spector, who has also represented celebs including Jenna Dewan and Amber Heard in their respective divorce proceedings, the 38-year-old is asking for spousal support.
If true, this is all pretty shady on Justin’s part. But there were allegedly additional underlying issues which the couple had been attempting to handle, a source revealed to People:
“He’s reached a new level of fame thanks to the show and he doesn’t want to close many doors right now, and that’s not necessarily the path Chrishell is looking to take. She thought babies would happen soon after they got married, but it just hasn’t worked out.”
While Chrishell has seen success in her own right on soap operas and with the aforementioned Netflix series, she’s definitely not making the same big bucks as her husband. As for kids, the hunk shares custody of his 15-year-old daughter Isabella Hartley with his ex-wife Lindsay Korman, but the now-exes have none together.
