Before we can even get to the award show, we have to get through the nomination morning.
Unfortunately, many were left with a sour taste in their mouths following Monday’s 2020 Oscars nominations.

While some were recognized for their outstanding work, there were also more than a few snubs:
Female Filmmakers
Many feared this would be the case with the Academy after no female directors were recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and they were unfortunately correct. A few who were expected to have been short-listed: Lorene Scafaria for Hustlers, Lulu Wang for The Farewell, Olivia Wilde for Booksmart, and Greta Gerwig for Little Women.
However, we can thank Issa Rae for delivering the perfect icy one-liner in response to the boys only club:

No female screenwriters were recognized in the Best Original Screenplay category, though Gerwig did score a nom in the Best Adapted Screenplay category (though she is the only nominated female).
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez received Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and Screen Actors Guild nominations for her role in Hustlers, but was unable to secure a nom by the Academy this year despite considerable buzz for her role. Unfortunately, the film saw no additional nominations.
On a similar note, Lupita Nyong’o and Awkwafina also didn’t manage to grab noms for their leading roles in Us and The Farewell.
Beyoncé & Taylor Swift
Neither Beyoncé nor Taylor Swift snagged nominations for their original songs in The Lion King or Cats, respectively. The Lion King was only nominated for Visual Effects, while Cats saw no nominations.
Frozen 2
It came as a surprise when Missing Link took home the Golden Globe earlier this month in the Best Animated Feature Film category, but even more of a shock when Frozen 2 failed to pick up a nomination at the Oscars.
Robert De Niro
While it doesn’t come as a huge surprise given he wasn’t nominated by the Globes, SAG-AFTRA, or BAFTA, Robert De Niro failed to make it as a Best Actor nominee for his role in The Irishman. He isn’t alone in being snubbed out of the category.
Many were surprised when Taron Egerton, who won the Golden Globe in this category, was not nominated for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman. The competition proved stiff this year as Christian Bale and Eddie Murphy were also left in the dust for their roles in Ford v Ferrari and Dolemite Is My Name. Adam Sandler‘s out of character role in Uncut Gems was a favorite of many movie-goers, but not with the Academy, apparently.
What do U think, Perezcious film buffs?? Which was the most surprising for you?? Sound OFF (below) in the comments with your take!!
