The 58-year-old comedian made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday, writing:
“Just had to say goodbye to the sweetest soul I’ve ever known. RIP Ollie. July 9th 2003 – March 10th 2020”
Many were left heartbroken by the news — and we’re not just talking about the thousands of followers who flooded Gervais’ comments section with their condolences.
On Wednesday, the Golden Globes host shared a photo of Ollie’s cat boyfriend Monty looking gut-wrenched after the comedian broke the tragic news to the feline.
