Things haven’t been going so good for Mama June lately… and her daughters are the ones feeling the worst effects during these bad times!
The (former-ish?) reality TV star has been in the wind for over a year now, traveling around the south with boyfriend Geno Doak in lieu of spending time with her children. And ever since June was arrested in Alabama on drug and domestic charges last March, she’s apparently had “zero contact” with her children. Girl, seriously?! WTF??

Now, we’re seeing firsthand exactly how that deadbeat departure from parenting has affected her two daughters, 20-year-old Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon and 14-year-old Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. In a new WEtv teaser clip of the season premiere of the network’s upcoming show Mama June: Family Crisis, we get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the ripple effect Mama June created when she walked away over a year ago.
Sitting around the house with family members, Pumpkin first opens up about how hard it is to contact the 40-year-old embattled TV star, saying:
“She doesn’t even answer our phone calls. It goes to voicemail. Even Geno’s phone goes to voicemail.”
Honey Boo Boo, sitting next to Pumpkin, backed her up on that one too, adding:
“Yeah. Or they’ll say all their phones are dead and they were sleeping.”
Imagine screening your two daughters’ phone calls and avoiding speaking with them for over a year…
What the f**k?!
Pumpkin, clearly at her wit’s end with all of it, added more in exasperation by pointing out the family — and the show’s producers — did all they could to keep June on a good path:
“It’s gotten so low to this point, like, what more is there to do? What more can we physically do for her? I mean, we tried to send her to rehab. The network even gave her the opportunity that anybody in their right f**king mind would take. She checked out within less than 24 hours.”
So frustrating… we can’t even imagine.

Pumpkin and Honey Boo Boo are right to be irked, to say the least. Mama June’s post-arrest odyssey has included trips to North Carolina and throughout Georgia, though more recently her sister has indicated she’s now living in Alabama and spending her time gambling away her hard-earned money.
Or, as Pumpkin is quick to put it, Geno remains at the center of all this gambling and money-spending — and there’s no doubt it’ll have long-term ramifications for both him and Mama June:
“Why come home when they can go to the casino and Geno can spend all the money? How much more money are they gonna blow through before she is completely broke?”
Ugh. It’s a bad situation, all around, though her daughters’ increasingly close relationship has been uplifting to watch, to say the least.
Still… at 20 years old, and with her own husband and baby to take care of, Pumpkins has lots to worry about aside from raising Honey Boo Boo, too. And in that role, Mama June’s absence has really been a drag.

Tough stuff. Here’s hoping Pumpkin and Honey Boo Boo receive some kind of resolution and closure very soon, one way or another, so they can get on with their promising young lives.
And a reminder for y’all at home: the entire first episode of Mama June: Family Crisis premieres in just a couple days — on Friday, March 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET on WEtv.
