John Mayer (Sort Of) Addresses Jessica Simpson’s Tell-All Memoir: ‘I Lived It’

John Mayer is taking the high road… kind of?

The crooner appeared Wednesday night on Watch What Happens Live, and spoke for several great interview segments with Bravo‘s head honcho and TV host extraordinaire Andy Cohen. During the show, which was done over a video call in order for everyone to practice good social distancing, the Your Body Is A Wonderland singer got very candid about quite a few things!

Perhaps the most interesting part, though, was his reaction to Simpson’s recently-published memoir, Open Book. In it, Simpson reflects on how the crooner was “obsessed both sexually and emotionally” with her, as the pair dated on and off after her divorce from Nick Lachey. Simpson’s memoir made waves as the 39-year-old opened up about her life in showbiz and quite a few of her past relationships, Mayer included.

Speaking now as he looks back on his time with the Public Affair singer, though, John seems to be remarkably content and understated about the whole thing. When pressed about it by long-time pal Andy, the 42-year-old crooner responded coyly during the interview, saying of the memoir:

“I’ve heard about it. I’ve heard some bits. But as Pee Wee Herman says in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure before the movie of his life is about to play out at the end, he’s not watching the movie, and the reason he’s not watching the movie, he says, ‘I don’t have to watch it, Dottie, I lived it.’ And I think that’s prescient here.”

That is, uhh, quite the reference, isn’t it?!

We get it, though… Mayer was there for, well, pretty much everything he and Simpson did together (er, like, we hope that was the case! LOLz!) so it sort of follows that he may not be super interested in re-reading it. Still, it’s quite a non-answer response to being asked about the headline-grabbing memoir, isn’t it?!

For what it’s worth, even Jessica herself hasn’t really been expecting her exes to reach out about the tell-all tales in that book. In an interview done with Us Weekly right after it came out in February, the author — who went on to marry Eric Johnson in 2014 — noted:

“None of those men [my exes] have reached out to me and I didn’t expect any of them to. They all know these stories, so I don’t think any of this came as a surprise to any of them.”

Well then! Doesn’t mean there weren’t things in there that came as a huge surprise to the rest of us, but still…

What do U think about Mayer’s reaction here, Perezcious readers?! Too cool for school, or is he trying to hide how he really feels and mask it with this casual air?!

Sound OFF about it all down in the comments (below)…
