Demi Lovato Opens Up About Rehab & Eating Disorders During Sonny With A Chance Zoom Video Reunion

Even though we’re all stuck in self-isolation and quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re still getting some of the nostalgia we so desperately love and crave… in the form of Zoom get-together!

This time around, it was the Sonny With A Chance and So Random! casts who reunited over the video-conferencing software, giving Disney Channel fans the perfect chance to be nostalgic and check up on how their favor former co-stars are doing nowadays!

And for this get-together, which was pre-recorded and first shared on Saturday afternoon on YouTube, that meant catching a LOT of Demi Lovato being very open and candid about her life and health since she wrapped filming with these fellow actors years ago.

Lovato was joined by — and supported with — plenty of former co-stars who shared their love: Tiffany Thornton, Allisyn Ashley Arm, Doug Brochu, Sterling Knight, Audrey Whitby, Matthew Scott Montgomery, Shayne Topp and Damien Haas. And together, they made for an epic (and very informative) video reunion!

Straight off the top, Arm asked the entire group what they’d been up to since the end of the show, and the 27-year-old pop superstar’s answer stood out front and center, catching everyone off guard:

“I went to rehab. Several times!”

Jokes aside, though — and it was nice to see Demi take a good attitude and laugh it off, for sure — the pop princess did get real about her time both on the Disney Channel and afterwards.

At one point in the Zoom discussion, she told Thornton she was actually “her biggest inspiration” after they both experienced similar issues working on a television series.

Lovato added:

“When I went away to treatment for the first time, you were my biggest inspiration coming out of it because you dealt with all of those pressures of being a woman on TV. I looked at that as, ‘God, I wish I had that so bad.’ Yes, I probably was happier in my head with whatever I looked like at the time. But I’m so much happier now with the mentality that you have. I look back and it and I’m like, ‘Man, it’s a shame that we wasted any energy on what we wore on set.'”

Wow!

Good that she has the perspective that she does now, ya know?! Sucks that it took so long for her to get it, but still… definitely thankful for where she’s at now!

Demi also opened up to the group about how she feels she was overworked as a child star — and how it led to struggling with an eating disorder. The singer added:

“I would have people over for meetings on my lunch breaks, because that’s how much I worked. People would come in and I’d be covered in a blanket and people would say, ‘Why is it 80 degrees in here?’ I would be like, ‘Because I’m freezing.’ They would be like, ‘Oh my god, what’s wrong with you?’ I had an eating disorder and I was underweight and freezing. I’m realizing that as I’ve gotten older, because when I was young… when you start off in the industry as a 7-year-old, 8-year-old, you kind of value your self-worth with your success. I have moments all the time where I’m like, ‘Do I want to continue this? Or do I want to pull a Tiffany and move to Texas, have a family and have a farm?'”

OMG!

So intense…

Nice!

What a fun little reunion!
