Prince Harry Disputes ‘Deeply Offensive’ Allegations Over Misused Charity Funds

Is Prince Harry facing financial trouble?

On Monday, Newsweek reported the anti-monarchy campaign, Republic, had asked the U.K. Charity Commission to investigate a large sum of funds which had been moved between The Royal Foundation, co-founded by Harry and Prince William in 2009, and two of the Duke’s other projects.

Their complaint alleged misuse of charitable funds, conflict of interest, and “lack of independence.” Graham Smith, CEO of the political organization, said in part:

“Maybe I’m missing something here, but I find it difficult to believe that a charity making an independent and impartial decision would decide to make these payments… I’m asking the Charity Commission to investigate these two charities, to ask them to provide justification for these payments and to demonstrate that they are not in thrall to their royal patrons.”

So, where exactly did the money trail lead?? Apparently, $366,000 was moved to Sussex Royal, which is now defunct because of Megxit, and Travalyst, an initiative launched in September 2019 to make tourism more eco-friendly.

A rep for Archie Harrison‘s dad shared (below) in response to the “offensive allegations:

“The Duke of Sussex has always and continues to remain deeply committed to his charitable work. This is his life’s focus, and his devotion to charity is at the very core of the principles he lives by and is obvious through the impact and success of his many charitable projects throughout the U.K. and beyond.”

The statement concluded:

“To this point, it is deeply offensive to today see false claims made about the Duke of Sussex and his charitable work. It is both defamatory and insulting to all the outstanding organizations and people he has partnered with.

Travalyst (which was founded within Sussex Royal) is a nonprofit organization for which the duke receives no commercial or financial gain, as is the case with all of his charitable commitments. The Duke has not, nor has he ever, had any personal financial interest in his charitable work.”

A spokesperson who previously worked with Sussex Royal also issued a statement to Us Weekly, revealing:

“Grants made to the non-profit organization Travalyst are for the ongoing development of projects that will support communities, wildlife, and the environment through sustainable travel and tourism.

All grants have been made impartially and objectively, fully in line with governance requirements, and have been reported transparently in full accordance with regulations.”

Seems like there are lots of delicate financial matters concerning the Los Angeles transplant. Most recently, he and Prince William had to decide how to split up the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, which was established after Princess Diana‘s tragic passing in 1997.

The reserve has been paid into the Royal Foundation since 2013, which is also shared by Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. But since Harry and Meg have distanced from the royal fam, they’re no longer part of the foundation, leaving it to their in-laws. It’s been reported Harry’s share will go towards the HIV/AIDS charity Sentebale, while William’s portion will stay within the Royal Foundation.

Thoughts on this, y’all?? Let us know (below) in the comments.
