Julian Sands has sadly been confirmed dead after his remains were found at Mount Baldy.

The British actor went missing back in January while hiking at Mount Baldy, which is located about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Human remains were discovered by hikers earlier this week and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office has confirmed they were those of Sands.

“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands,” the Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The statement continued, “On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at about 10:00 a.m., civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness. Fontana Station deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Operations Division, responded to the scene. The decedent was transported to the Coroner’s Office, pending positive identification. Identification should be completed next week at which time we will update this press release. No further details are available at this time.’

A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Julian is best known for his roles in The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, and Ocean’s 13. He also played Superman’s biological dad, Jor-El, on Smallville.
