Trust us we have read a lot of parenting books, and we have never come across this little bit of advice!
You may know Ali Wentworth as the star of Head Case or Nightcap, or for her role as one of the players on the seminal Wayans Brothers sketch comedy show In Living Color. But she’s also become known for her very public marriage to ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, with whom she shares two daughters.
It was her parenting that put her name in headlines this week as she made an absolutely wild suggestion about how to handle your kids watching porn in the age of the internet.

In a guest appearance on Debra Messing and Mandana Dayani‘s new podcast, The Dissenters, Ali said she thought it was a good idea to watch porn with your kids!
Um… WTF?!
Obviously she means when they reach the age they’re starting to look for it on their own; she explains:
“You can’t stop them, so I would watch it with them. I would look at the porn with them that one time, like, ‘They’re performing.'”
In Ali’s assessment, it’s important to communicate to kids, especially young men, the difference between the sex depicted in porn and real sex.
“In porn, women have been conditioned to look and act a certain way. They are performing and it’s dangerous to have boys see this as something women want.”
Hmm. There is an awful lot of slapping, name-calling, and incest in modern porn. So the Happily Ali After author isn’t wrong about kids needing to be fully informed about the types of acts that require consent — and the ones which lead to lengthy legal cases.
But watching with them?? Can you imagine anything more mortifying? For BOTH parties?!
It may be worth noting Ali’s kids Elliott, 17, and Harper, 15, are both girls. So she doesn’t actually have a son to try to sit down and watch porn with — so this may be one of those easier said than done cases.
She did say she has been looking at social media alongside her daughters, telling Debra and Mandana she tries to make it clear that some influencers are showing unhealthy attention seeking behavior:
“I say, ‘Do you see this girl? There is a hole she is trying to fill.'”
Ironically, that is what a parent could say if they were watching porn… Ha!
What do YOU think about this little parenting tip? Healthy in theory but a nightmare if anyone actually tried to do it? Just a terrible idea to begin with? Or is she actually on the right track here??
