Angelica Ross Says Ryan Murphy Ghosted Her After Accepting Her Pitch for an 'American Horror Story' Season Starring Black Women

Angelica Ross says that Ryan Murphy accepted her pitch of doing a season of American Horror Story starring four black women, but then ghosted her and never responded to follow-ups about the project.

The 42-year-old actress rose to fame while playing Candy Ferocity in Ryan‘s FX series Pose and she later appeared in two seasons of American Horror Story.

Angelica has shared a screenshot of an email she says Ryan sent to her in July 2020, in which he accepted the pitch she gave him.

“Remember your idea about a HORROR season starring Black women? Well I’m doing it. Not sure of the story yet, but we will start a writers room in the fall,” Ryan wrote in the email.

He added, “Along with you, who are the four women I should get? I think you, Keke Palmer, Gabby [Sidibe] … not sure of the fourth?”

Angelica shared her excited response to the email, in which she pitched women like Debbi Morgan, Lynn Whitfield, Alfre Woodard, Adina Porter, and Angela Bassett to appear in the series.

In a TikTok video, Angelica shared the screenshot and said she was “left on read.”

In February 2022, Angelica followed up and said in an email to Ryan, “Good morning, up cleaning and organizing and thinking about what season 11′s focus could be and then just thought maybe just ask you that when that formulates if I could be on the producing side as well. I think I could add a lot to the table in the overall storyline if we are still looking to do a Black lead cast.”

Angelica said on Twitter that she was contractually in first position for AHS for all this time and Marvel was calling during the waiting period, yet she never heard anything from Ryan.

“After not hearing back. After sending flowers and no response I sent one last email in Feb 2022 (it took about a year to film season 10 due to COVID) while still contractually in first position with the show. Mind you, marvel had called twice now. I haven’t heard from him since,” Angelica said on Twitter. “One white director was MOPING on set saying he doesn’t think he’s coming back next season because there’s been a ‘change in direction.’ I just smiled knowing what it was but trust some folks weren’t thrilled cuz they knew I’d press for Black directors, writers…AS PER MY EMAIL.”

Angelica continued, “It’s not JUST that the idea changed. Things change all the time. It’s that I called business affairs for MONTHS trying to get clarity if they were picking up my contract option or if I was ok to tell Marvel that I was available for whatever they were calling me for. I had been auditioning for THREE YEARS for marvel. It’s that I was HELD in first position the whole time.”

Earlier this summer, Ryan responded to allegations about what was happening on the set of American Horror Story amid the strikes.
