Ansel Elgort Responds To Sexual Assault Allegations: ‘I Am… Deeply Ashamed Of The Way I Acted’

Ansel Elgort has now officially responded to the disturbing sexual assault allegations levied against him days ago.

As you’ll recall from our reporting on Friday, the Hollywood actor was accused of sexual assault by a social media user named Gabby in a disturbing online message. In her post, the young woman accused the 26-year-old star of sexually assaulting her when she was just 17 years old, back in 2014.

Thought Gabby’s online presence has since gone private, her post also purportedly showed screenshots of messages between the actor and his one-time fan. She further claims to have formerly spoken to him via Snapchat and elsewhere, including at points where, according to her, he allegedly asked for nudes and reportedly requested to have a threesome with one of her friends. Eventually, the two met in person — and that is at least a claim that Elgort himself apparently doesn’t deny.

Late on Saturday night, the Baby Driver actor spoke up in response, categorically denying the allegations against him. Doing it through a Notes App-style message on his Instagram account, the film star wrote that Gabby’s story of the alleged assault “is simply not what happened,” and he further attempted to clarify what he termed as the truth while also acknowledging fault in himself.

He wrote (below):

“I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours. I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her depiction of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared. As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”

There has been no other public comment from Elgort, who has recently wrapped filming for West Side Story and is currently working on Tokyo Vice.
