Antonio Banderas Reveals He Tested Positive For Coronavirus — On His 60th Birthday

Sending all of our well wishes to film legend Antonio Banderas!

The Spanish-born actor turns 60 years old on Monday, but rather than celebrating the milestone on a positive note with family and friends, he’s now stuck in quarantine and isolating himself away from loved ones after revealing that he has tested positive for the coronavirus. Oh, no!

The Pain and Glory actor revealed as much in a public message coming through on social media early this morning — the day of his big six-oh. Fortunately, it sounds like he is thus far coping very well with the COVID-19 diagnosis, and we hope and pray that continues over the next few weeks.

“I want to tell you the following,” Banderas opened up about the ordeal in Spanish on his official Twitter account, sharing a picture of himself as a child alongside a full message in Spanish for the world to see (below):

The Puss In Boots star continued on from there (translated into English, below):

“I want to make it public that today, Aug. 10, I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday in quarantine, having tested positive for the COVID-19 disease, caused by the coronavirus. I would like to add that I feel relatively good, just a little more tired than usual, and am confident that I will recover as soon as possible following medical instructions that I hope will allow me to overcome the infectious period that I am suffering, and that is affecting so many people around the planet. I will take advantage of this isolation to read, write, rest and continue making plans to begin to give meaning to my 60 years, to which I arrive full of enthusiasm. A big hug to everyone.”

Awww! That’s a nice statement filled with a very sweet and optimistic sentiment.

As Banderas himself mentioned by noting his “relatively good” feelings, we sincerely hope that can continue, and the longtime movie star can come away from this ordeal relatively unscathed. Fans and fellow performers reached out to the star in both English and Spanish after the announcement, sharing their own love and support for a full recovery.

Born in Malaga, Spain, Antonio maintains residences in his home nation as well as England and New York — though it is not immediately known where he is spending this time of quarantine. We can only hope things improve steadily for the Mask of Zorro star, and he gets a clean bill of health here in another couple weeks!

The Once Upon A Time In Mexico alum is far from the only major film star to thus far be diagnosed with COVID-19. Over the last few months, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have suffered the effects of the virus, as well as Idris ElbaMarianne FaithfullOlga Kurylenko, and Mel Gibson, just to name a few.

Our best wishes to Antonio for a full recovery! Get well soon! ¡Mejórate pronto!
