Before we get into the heavy stuff, ch-ch-check out her powerful cover shots (below):
On Her Miscarriages
Bey’s conversation with the glossy kicked off with a poignant reflection on how tough times forced her to search for new meaning in life. Referencing her painful miscarriages, she admitted:
“I began to search for deeper meaning when life began to teach me lessons I didn’t know I needed. Success looks different to me now. I learned that all pain and loss is in fact a gift. Having miscarriages taught me that I had to mother myself before I could be a mother to someone else.”
As our readers know, the star and her husband JAY-Z experienced fertility struggles on their journey to start a family and they previously opened up about it in the 2013 HBO documentary Life Is But A Dream where Bey called it “the saddest thing I’ve ever been through.”
The couple would go on to welcome their three kids, 7-year-old Blue Ivy Carter and 2-year-old twins, Sir and Rumi Carter. The former Destiny’s Child frontwoman says finally being able to conceive helped completely redefine her idea of success:
“I had Blue, and the quest for my purpose became so much deeper. I died and was reborn in my relationship, and the quest for self became even stronger. It’s difficult for me to go backwards. Being ‘number one’ was no longer my priority. My true win is creating art and a legacy that will live far beyond me. That’s fulfilling.”
On Body Positivity
In addition to shifting her sense of purpose, the Lemonade singer admitted the changes her body experienced through and after pregnancy brought unexpected newfound confidence:
“If someone told me 15 years ago that my body would go through so many changes and fluctuations, and that I would feel more womanly and secure with my curves, I would not have believed them. But children and maturity have taught me to value myself beyond my physical appearance and really understand that I am more than enough no matter what stage I’m at in life.”
Alluding to her current IDGAF mindset, Beyoncé continued:
“Giving zero f**ks is the most liberating place to be. Also knowing true beauty is something you cannot see. I wish more people focused on discovering the beauty within themselves rather than critiquing other folks’ grills.”
Speaking of unnecessary critiques, the entertainer revealed the question that really works a nerve is when fans get overzealous and ask if she’s expecting again! The star emphatically shared her feelings on the matter:
“Get off my ovaries!”
On Making Time For Her Family
Even with the star’s growing list of business ventures, which includes running her management company Parkwood Entertainment and the re-launch of her apparel brand IVY PARK, she continues to prioritize her family:
“Making sure I am present for my kids — dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family — all while running a company can be challenging. Juggling all of those roles can be stressful, but I think that’s life for any working mom.”
By embracing her many roles in life, Bey has learned “the predictable rock star DNA is a myth.”
“I believe you don’t have to accept dysfunction to be successful. This is not to say that I have not struggled. I have the same pain that life brings to everyone else. I try to shift the stigma that says with fame there has to be drama. It is how you relate to your hardships and use that to evolve. And I try to keep real ones around me.”
On Revamping IVY PARK:
Yonce’s feature comes on the heels of a new partnership between IVY PARK and Adidas that aims to bring a fresh update to the star’s athleisure collection. The upcoming line experiments with fashion, mixing high and low, sportswear with couture, and even masculine and feminine.
The starlet admitted the new gender-neutral creative direction came from an outpouring of support from male customers:
“I focused on designing a unisex collection of footwear and apparel because I saw so many men in IVY PARK. The way they have embraced the brand is an unexpected gift. I appreciate the beauty of gender-neutral clothing and breaking the so-called fashion rules. I took a chance on myself when I bought my company back. We all have the confidence in us to take chances and bet on ourselves.”
The new range of activewear clothing and accessories isn’t set to launch until Saturday, January 18, but in the meantime, fans can get a glimpse of the merch courtesy of the fierce batch of pics the momma of three recently shared on her Instagram. We can’t wait to see the full line when it drops!
