Britney Spears is ready to take her rightful place on the throne and become a pop princess again!
It’s been about a decade since the last full-length album the Oops I Did It Again singer dropped, and now that she’s poured her heart out in her tell-all, The Woman in Me, she’s ready to do the same thing via song!
According to Page Six sources on Wednesday, superstars Charli XCX and Julia Michaels are among the team of hitmakers who have been tapped by Britney’s team to help write what they hope will be her next studio album. Yay! If you don’t know, Julia previously worked on seven songs for Brit’s 2016 album Glory, including the single Slumber Party. So she’s a natural pick!

As for the Speed Drive artist, The US Sun was first to reveal the 31-year-old’s involvement last week with a music insider elaborating:
“The Britney album is being kept top secret. Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang. She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century so there is pressure for the music to be great.”
They added:
“Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing clever pop songs. She went into the studio earlier in the year to make some songs using Britney’s guidance of what she is after. She came up with a really strong track that is expected to make it on to the album, which Britney’s team hope will be out in 2024.”
Aside from her own unforgettable tracks like Boom Clap, Charli has also written for the likes of Selena Gomez and Gwen Stefani, and she was even behind Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello‘s hit Señorita. So it’s obvious why they turned to her for help! But per Page Six, the Crossroads alum has yet to record any new material yet because the project is still in the early stages. Sounds exciting though!
This comes after sources previously told the outlet that the Baby One More Time singer was working on her divorce-inspired record starting in August following her split from Sam Asghari, but it turns out she hit pause on the project during the fall to focus on the launch of her book, the outlet noted this week.
The Toxic artist has slowly dipped her toe back into the music industry ever since she took a break in 2019 amid her conservatorship. In 2022, she released Hold Me Closer with Elton John followed by Mind Your Business with Will.i.am last year. While she admitted to “struggling” with the idea of performing again in her memoir, this seems like a sign she’s ready to get back in the game! We’ll be eagerly awaiting her return!
