Life under quarantine has exposed one former California commissioner as a problematic pet owner — and really unprofessional in general.
Chris Platzer (not pictured) resigned from his job as Vallejo planning commissioner after he threw his cat into the air during a Zoom meeting where he also allegedly drank alcohol and used derogatory language.
The meeting took place on April 20 as the city continues to practice social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the chat, Platzer was asked if he had any comments about the topic of discussion.

As his cat was heard loudly meowing in the background, he said:
“Yes, if I’m allowed to make them.”
The commission chair confirmed this was the section where Platzer could make the comments, as another loud meow was heard — prompting Platzer to raise the animal up to the camera for a moment, telling his co-workers:
“OK, first, I’d like to introduce my cat.”
Platzer then tossed the feline aside like it was dirty laundry, causing the animal to land off camera with a thud.

Platzer eventually owned up to his behavior. In an email to the Vallejo Times-Herald on Saturday, he confirmed that he was stepping down and apologized. He wrote:
“I did not conduct myself in the Zoom meeting in a manner befitting of a planning commissioner and apologize for any harm I may have inflicted. I serve at the pleasure of the council and no longer have that trust and backing.”
Sounds like he stepped down just in time, as the City Council was reportedly set to consider a resolution to remove Platzer from the commission at its Tuesday night meeting.

Aside from the cat-throwing, Platzer’s colleagues also observed him drinking an alcoholic beverage during the meeting, according to a city document, and heard him “using a derogatory and highly offensive epithet” after the meeting ended, but before the webinar stream had finished.
He said in the meeting video:
“I’m going to call bulls**t. Mhm. I’m going to call bulls**t on you little bitches.”
Ick. Good riddance to that energy!
