Climate Change Protest at US Open Temporarily Delays Women's Semifinals

A climate change protest during the semifinal match against Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova at the US Open on Thursday night (September 7) temporarily delayed the game.

According to ABC 7, multiple protesters were involved in a stunt that took place in the midst of the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The outlet noted that Coco had the lead when protesters in the stands started raising a ruckus. One of them went as far as to superglue themselves to the ground.

Wearing shirts that said “End Fossil Fuels,” they managed to pause the game for around 15 minutes. Reportedly, two people were arrested.

Coco and Karolina used the time as a break and had an opportunity to warm up again before returning to the court to resume play. We’ll let you know how the game ends and if we learn more.

Coco celebrated a big win in August.
