Dorinda Medley Announces She’s Leaving Real Housewives Of New York City — But Wait, Was She Fired?!

Early on Tuesday morning, Dorinda Medley announced her time on Real Housewives of New York City had come to an end, and she’d be leaving the show immediately after six seasons on the air.

Then, hours later, a published report claimed she didn’t bow out from the show on her own as implied in her initial announcement! Rather she was allegedly FIRED by producers just days after the death of one of her best friends. So what’s really going on here?!

Well, according to DailyMail.com, the 55-year-old reality TV star was “informed of the network’s decision to give her the ax” earlier this morning. The unexpected firing came just two days after the death of her good pal Jon Giswold, too, further adding insult to injury.

And while Dorinda then tried to get ahead of the firing news by first posting an announcement on her Instagram page that she was simply “leaving” the show of her own accord (more on that below), production sources have confirmed the story that she was apparently booted by execs.

One insider backed up the firing claim, but also warned that Bravo may come to regret the decision, saying:

“It’s a big mistake. We’re all surprised as even though she had a tough season, she is a fan favorite who people are rooting for. Dorinda was the only housewife left who owns both her own apartment in New York City alongside a second home in the country. You watch, this is an error that they will regret.”

The firing paints a very different picture from the amicable split the reality TV maven tried to sell hours earlier via IG, where she took the (very) high road in thanking the network and parent company NBCUniversal for her time on air:

Of course, she doesn’t specifically say she wasn’t fired in that sweet message confirming her exit, but it’s certainly interesting to see her reveal the news with such a self-serving, and drama-free departure. Grateful, classy, leaving on a high note, saying nothing but good things about exec Andy Cohen‘s team over at the reality TV powerhouse… but is it all true?!

Honestly, it doesn’t matter much whether she was ultimately fired by producers or leaving of her own accord, for Dorinda will be greatly missed as RHONY‘s 13th season rolls around soon enough. As that same production source noted, just think of all the things that’ll be missing from the show without her unique spark and sass:

“Think about it, there will be no more Clip!, no more Bluestone Manor and no more voice of reason. How will the show celebrate the holidays without Dorinda? What are we going to do, follow Luann’s virtual cabaret show next season?”

However this played out behind the scenes, Medley’s departure definitely sucks. There’s just no other way to put it! Her forever-entertaining antics and perfect reality TV personality will be VERY much missed on the show moving forward!
