Still unhappy with how Game of Thrones ended earlier this year? Well, you may be able to find solace in the fact that an alternate ending exists, somewhere — even though it’ll probably never see the light of day!
The tea (or Giant’s breastmilk?) was spilled by Kristofer Hivju, who fans will remember as Tormund the Wildling. Speaking to Metro, he said:
“Well, we shot an alternative ending. That was mostly for fun, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.”
We’d assume HBO wouldn’t mind, seeing as the network’s president of programming Casey Bloys already revealed this information back in 2017. As we reported, he said while speaking at Moravian College:
“I know in the Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really knows what happens… You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no definitive answer until the end.”
Such is especially the case with a show like GoT, which has had to deal with leakers, hackers, and actual drones spying on location shoots over the past few years.

But other cast members have since downplayed those rumors. Back in 2018, Maisie Williams told Jimmy Kimmel:
“Well, I heard this and I immediately thought, ‘I don’t think we’ve got the budget to shoot lots of different endings.'”
Apparently, they do have the budget to shoot ONE alternate ending “for fun” — at least according to Hivju, who was pressed from more details on the alternate ending by Metro but did not budge.
Curiously enough, one leaker whose info turned out to be right went on to post about an alternate ending a few days after the finale aired. According to the leaker, there was originally a post credits scene with Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targargyen, that didn’t make the cut in the final edit!
This claim caused fans to develop a theory that [SPOILERS] Drogon, Dany’s dragon, brought his slain mother to Volantis to be resurrected by Kinvara, the red priestess who met with Tyrion and Varys in Meereen a few seasons back. (More on that theory HERE.)
So, could that be the alternate ending Tormund was speaking of? Or did HBO film a completely different ending fans will never even know about!?
