Gypsy Rose Blanchard Reacts To Backlash Following Insensitive TikTok Joke About Killing Her Mom: ‘I Would Never…’

Y’all… Just get ready, because Gypsy Rose Blanchard is responding to all the backlash over THAT TikTok video.

As we reported over the weekend, Gypsy and Natalie Reynolds got in some hot water after doing the “we listen and we don’t judge” trend on the video platform. The video went insanely viral for all the wrong reasons. What’s usually a pretty funny and lighthearted concept turned into chaos when Gypsy made a joke about killing her mom, Dee Dee Blanchard. She said in the video:

“We listen and we don’t judge. I went to prison for eight and a half years because I [killed] my own mom.”

Wild. Beyond wild.

But during a chat with TMZ, Gypsy is trying to explain herself. In a new interview on Monday, the reporter asked how the video came about, and she seemingly hasn’t learned anything! Because she made a joke again after explaining how she just wanted to collaborate with Natalie because she’s a huge TikToker:

“I’m not one to judge anyone’s past, obviously, so I’m like, ‘What happens if we did the ‘We listen, and we don’t judge’ trend, and we just hit the hard topics very bluntly and just own it and take accountability for the wrongs that we’ve done.”

She’s “not one to judge anyone’s past” for sure. OMG.

Gypsy explained she just wanted to make new “content” and referred to herself as an influencer looking to take “accountability.” She said the video was for her audience who likes “to see me grow”:

“This is the first time that I tried something different and a head-on approach … unfortunately, it wasn’t received like we wanted.”

It’s understandable why it wasn’t well-received. We mean, this is joking about a real, serious crime that she actually went to jail for. It upset a lot of people, and her recent perception in the world hasn’t been helping, either…

The Life After Lock Up star said she made an ‘X’ symbol in regard to her mother’s murder to avoid TikTok’s censors. She also defended her right to joke about it, explaining that it was kind of the big elephant in the room, and she felt like if she didn’t address it she’d get backlash. In her eyes, there was no winning.

All in all, Gypsy said:

“It was a bold move on my part, and I think that my delivery was just not handled properly.”

She also took a moment to apologize:

“I do deeply apologize to anyone who may have been offended by it. That was never my intention. I was not laughing about it. I don’t think it’s funny to joke about a heavy topic and my past. I apologize because the delivery was wrong on that. I am trying to be my authentic self, and if my authentic self is saying I did something bad in my past but look at where I am now, that’s where I’m coming from with it. But I would never joke about my past. So I do apologize if it came off too abrasive.”

If she doesn’t think it’s funny to joke about, then why did she do it? Come on, the video was clearly done with the intention to be humorous, Gypsy. Claiming she “would never” joke about her past?? Be serious, now…
