Halsey Apologizes For Insensitive Tweet About The World Trade Center: ‘Clearly A Misunderstanding’

Halsey is clearing the air after an absolutely savage Twitter exchange nearly sent pitchforks coming her way.

The drama started on Thursday when a media outlet called Pitchfork shared a pretty brutal review of the 25-year-old pop star’s latest studio album titled Manic, cutting straight to the chase as they argued, in part:

“Too much of this album sounds like the amorphous pop that you might associate with a miserable Lyft ride.”

Ouch!!

The You Should Be Sad singer hit back at the digital magazine with a scathing, since-deleted tweet that said:

“can the basement that they run p*tchfork out of just collapse already.”

Eagle-eyed fans caught a glimpse and screengrab of the message (below) before it was gone, though:

Now, here’s where things get a bit dicey…

NBC reporter Ben Kesslen caught wind of Halsey’s tweet and reposted it with a pretty dark observation that she allegedly overlooked. As it turns out, one of Pitchfork‘s central offices is located at One World Trade Center, the skyscraper that was built to commemorate the collapse of the Twin Towers following the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

With this added context, the singer’s tweet sounds especially harsh and insensitive — doesn’t it? Yikes…

Kesslen put the starlet on blast with his message that said:

“losing my mind thinking about the person on halsey’s team who had to tell her she just called for the collapse of one world trade”

Dang, that’s a tough one. We mean, what are the odds she knew the outlet worked in that building of all the highrises in New York City? The outlet’s online bio does note they are also based in Chicago, too. Her original tweet sounded a little bitter, albeit, but we seriously doubt she meant for actual physical harm to come to those people, right?

One Big Misunderstanding?

Halsey saw the journalist‘s tweet and immediately seized the opportunity to clear things up:

“ABSOLUTELY deleted it upon realizing this. was just trying to make a joke! Intended zero harm. Just figured I could poke at them back with the same aloof passive aggression they poke at artists with! Clearly a misunderstanding.”
