Hilary Duff was deeply hurt by Ashley Tisdale‘s “toxic” mom group drama!
The Lizzie McGuire star popped onto Wednesday’s edition of Alex Cooper‘s Call Her Daddy podcast, and nothing was off limits. The host, of course, brought up the controversy surrounding her friend group of mothers — ’cause it’s been one of the hottest topics on the internet lately!
Hilary never directly named the High School Musical alum, but she recalled what it was like to read her January essay, Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group, for The Cut for the first time. The article is what sparked all this drama, in which Ashley detailed how she was cut out from her former friend group, which folks quickly realized appeared to include Hilary, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.

Recalling the start of the mess, Hilary shared:
“I felt really sad. I honestly felt really sad. I was, like, pretty, pretty taken aback and felt just, like, sad.”
She went on to gush about being “so lucky” to have “so many groups of friends,” especially throughout motherhood, noting she has several groups of mom friends because she has four kids. Bashing Ashley’s take on the situation, she said:
“So I think I just was like, ‘Woah.’ It sucks to read something that’s, like, not true. And it sucks on behalf of, like, six women in all of their lives.”
Ashley didn’t name any of her ex-friends in the article, and she even tried to deny it was about the famous group after the article took off online. However, fans were picking up all the clues. And then Hilary’s husband, Matthew Koma, made it incredibly obvious it was about her by recreating Ashley’s The Cut piece with his own sassy headline, “When You’re The Most Self Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers.” Damn!
It really stirred the pot! But the Younger star doesn’t have any regrets about it. Pointing out that she didn’t know he was going to clap back, she said:
“Honestly, everything he does makes me laugh. So I was like, ‘Oh my God. Oh my God.’ But I also don’t censor him, and I don’t tell him what he can and can’t post. He is so, like, fierce for me, and, like, I love him for that.”
Before moving on, Hilary SLAMMED Ashley for essentially using her for clout! Acknowledging this all came to light as she was making her music comeback, the 38-year-old reflected:
“I think it came at the craziest time where I was like, the timing felt not great and I felt used.”
Alex mused:
“Like, would this have happened had you not had your big resurgence and everything going on with you?”
Hilary smiled and nodded as if to indicate that’s exactly what she’s thinking. Oof! It’s SO shady if that’s the case!
