Playing onscreen love interests opposite your ex isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time, but Joey King took one for the team when filming The Kissing Booth 2 with Jacob Elordi!
In a new interview with Cosmo, The Act star revealed what it was like to star in the teen rom-com sequel alongside her off-screen ex-boyfriend — a topic the 21-year-old knew was a long time coming, as evidenced by her being so dang awkward about the subject during her sit-down with the glossy.

According to the mag, the starlet knew what the interviewer wanted to ask before she even got the question out, telling the reporter:
“Ask it. I don’t give a s**t.”
LOLz, that’s definitely some let’s-get-this-over-with energy — and we don’t blame her! Who’d want to talk about something so uncomfortable!?
After a few false starts, The Conjuring actress managed to get out:
“No one’s thinking to themselves, That was easy, because it wasn’t. I’m sure people will analyze every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them. But at the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again.”
Smart deflection!
But the Cosmo reporter pressed her to go into more detail — to which King replied:
“There’s so much I want to say. What’s the most, um, correct way to go about this? Elle Evans needs her Noah Flynn, and whatever that means for my personal life, I’ll do anything to make sure the story of my character who I care about so much is complete.”
There you have it: gurl’s just doing it for The Kissing Booth franchise — which is also apparently why she abruptly deleted a recent tweet about Jacob.
As fans know, King poked fun at her ex after the Euphoria star told press that he still hadn’t seen The Kissing Booth 2. She wrote on Twitter, “Jacob watched it. He’s capping” then deleted the tweet shortly after. But the deletion had nothing to do with Jacob, according to King.
She explained in an interview with Howard Stern:
“I said, ‘Jacob watched it. He’s capping.’ Which, ‘capping’ means lying. I heard the term ‘capping’ on like Tik Tok and Twitter and Instagram, through friends, and I was like ‘I guess this is the new thing.’ Apparently it’s not. It’s something I should not have used as a white person. I took it down… two accounts on Twitter called me out for it, that’s why I deleted it. People thought it was because I was like ‘oh no I shouldn’t have said that about him’ so I deleted it because of that.”
She continued:
“The tweet was a jovial thing. It wasn’t to be mean — it really wasn’t. I know the The Kissing Booth fans, they are always so curious about that tension of sorts and so I was like I’m just going to, I know they will appreciate it and that’s who it was for.”
Joey went on to reveal that she got Jacob’s “permission to tweet it” first, so it really does seem like the two are on good enough terms nearly two years after their breakup.
King added of her year-long relationship with the actor:
“I think it’s a good thing we dated in the first place. I learned the most I’ve ever learned in my life from him.”
We’ll see if she feels the same way after The Kissing Booth 3… LOLz!
