All breakups are difficult — but we can’t imagine how tricky this must all be for Kelly Clarkson.
First off the Since U Been Gone singer shares two children with husband Brandon Blackstock, which is its own nightmare when it comes to divorce. Once kids are involved, those differences have to be truly irreconcilable to even go through with it.
But in Kelly’s case, she’s also tied to her husband through her career! He’s an executive producer on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the hit daytime talk show which debuted in 2019 and looks to continue based on the ratings so far. Is he going to be out? Do they have to keep working together?
Not only that, Brandon is also her manager! Is he going to get half her earnings AND fifteen percent?? (Luckily her prenup should help with all that.)

But Blackstock isn’t just Kelly’s manager; he’s also the longtime manager of Blake Shelton, with whom Kelly competes on NBC‘s The Voice. The singers/coaches are good friends!
Thankfully Blake is still someone Kelly can rely on, per a source spilling to Us Weekly:
“Blake has been supportive and the friend she has needed, as always. Blake and Kelly often joke they are siblings.”
Thank goodness! Blake has his own experience with divorce, so he’s a good man to talk to about all this.
Another country music tie is of course Brandon’s stepmother (and Kelly’s stepmother-in-law) Reba McEntire. But another source says despite the split, Kelly isn’t losing the living legend as a friend:
“[Kelly] broke the news to Reba. Reba’s supportive of both Brandon and Kelly’s decision to split. She’s anguished about it, but she’s not one to judge.”
Seems like everyone wants to support Kelly through this difficult time. But the difficulty has been going on for a while now…
We’ve heard Brandon and Kelly had been fighting a lot recently, but it was the stress of the coronavirus quarantine — which saw the couple isolate in their home in Montana with 6-year-old River Rose Blackstock and 4-year-old Remington Alexander Blackstock AND Brandon’s two teenage children from a previous relationship — was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Now a newly released interview Kelly gave before the divorce filing seems to confirm that. The 38-year-old told Glamour Unfiltered weeks ago about how her life had changed during the lockdown:
“Honestly, I have been on an emotional roller coaster. This has been really hard as a working parent, because I’m still doing all the same jobs. It’s been exhausting honestly, cooking every meal and cleaning nonstop after toddlers and teenagers! Everybody’s learning from home now and the teaching! So, everything has been crazy.”
Kelly is a recording artist, a daytime talk show host, a coach on The Voice, AND a mother of four. Yeah, that’s a lot of hats. She continued:
“I’m literally holding down so many things right now. Not only jobs, but even things where we usually had a lot more help. We are fortunate, so I’m not complaining in that sense, but I’ve definitely had to tell people that I work with, ‘You hired a mom and I’m not an absentee mom. I’m a full-on mom.’ I already have abandonment issues, so I don’t want to pass those down.”
Aw. So sad to know the only way she was able to get out from under that feeling was the nuclear option.
At least she has support!
