Lil Nas X wasn’t always so open about his sexuality.
As we reported in June, the Old Town Road rapper went on Twitter to come out as gay.

In a sneak peek of his upcoming CBS This Morning interview airing Tuesday, the Panini musician spoke to host Gayle King about his life before he became famous.
The interviewer asked the artist:
“Did you know as a little boy that you were gay? Did you think that as a youngster while people were telling you it’s not a good thing, were you thinking, ‘Yeah, but I think I am?'”
The 20-year-old responded:
“Yeah, definitely. I knew. Especially around my teenage years.”
However, the Atlanta-native revealed he would “pray, pray, and pray” his sexuality was just “a phase,” and hoped “it would go away.”
Nowadays, the singer acknowledges it is “easy” for a person like himself to be out and proud. Sadly, it’s not the case for everyone.
“Me being in this position, like, it’s easy for me. But some little boy 10 miles from here… It’s not gonna be good for him.”
While Nas believes his story has helped others, “we still have a long way to go,” adding:
“It’s not like everybody is messing me with me now. ‘Cause of course you know, for somebody listening to me in school right now, it’s like, you know, you’re listening to — you’re gay, ’cause you’re listening to him… There’s still a lot to be done, of course. But I — I do believe it’s helping.”

Earlier this month, the performer appeared on Ellen DeGeneres‘ daytime talk show where he revealed what prompted him to publicly come out. He explained:
“Just knowing it was something that I should have [already] done… But I was [previously] in a position where I had to worry about family and friends and how they would react. But in the past year, I’m on a new level, so it doesn’t really matter, I guess.”
He added:
“And, also just how it would be good for the youngins listening to me right now, who are going to have to go through stuff like this in the future, to know that it’s all right.”
Nas also told the comedian he came out to his father and sister a month before his tweet to give them both a “heads up.”
Additionally, he dished he is “somewhat” in a relationship.
