Fans were overjoyed last August when it was revealed a Lizzie McGuire reboot was officially in the works thanks to the folks over at Disney+. But in the time since then, so much drama has gone down on the production side of things that many believe we may never get another look at the beloved teen comedy starring Hilary Duff after all.
While the powers that be continue to fiercely debate if the reboot is considered “family-friendly” enough to grace our TV screens in 2020, comedian Benito Skinner has stepped up in the meantime to deliver the HILARIOUS, modern-day version of Lizzie we truly needed to see!

In the minute-long video uploaded to Instagram, Skinner debuts an older but not much wiser iteration of Lizzie who just got fired from her job at Lululemon for tweeting obscenities like, “Bring back fingering!” LOLz!
This version of McGuire appears to be very on-brand with most of the Millennials who grew up watching her! She drinks White Claw hard seltzer like it’s water, frequents Soul Cycle, and has a healthy sexual appetite as a woman in her thirties. Oh yeah, she also has plenty of LGBT+ friends in her inner circle, too!
If you couldn’t already tell, this version definitely isn’t for kids — but it feels so realistic and we are SO here for it! We’d hate to ruin more of it for you so watch the funny clip for yourself (below):

Judging by the slew of “LOLs” and crying laughing emojis in the comments, it’s safe to say fans appreciated his take on the reboot. As our girl Lizzie always said, this is what dreams are made of! Ha.
As we mentioned earlier, the Disney+-powered series has been stalled for quite some time now. We sensed there was trouble behind-the-scenes after the network fired showrunner and original series creator Terri Minsky after only two episodes had been filmed. At the time, execs claimed they wanted to “move in a different creative direction” and put “a new lens on the series.” Basically, they insinuated the subject material just wasn’t good enough.
However, after it was announced a different YA show titled Love, Victor would be moving from Disney+ to Hulu because it wasn’t “family-friendly” enough, it became obvious the streaming service was attempting to be extra careful to its sensitive audience. That news just didn’t sit well with Duff, who took to her social media and hinted her show was being put under the same scrutiny.
She’d later go on to issue an emotional, open statement in which she implored Disney to give the Lizzie McGuire reboot a chance on Hulu where she could authentically tell her character’s story. She wrote:
“Was incredibly excited to launch Lizzie on D+ and my passion remains! However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.”
The actress continued:
“It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen / teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again <3.”
We’re crossing our fingers this actually happens and Disney gives the fans what they deserve!
