So much has come to light over the past week since we’ve learned Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy were headed for divorce after nearly five years together.
We heard rumors the 50-year-old French banker wasn’t a fan of the former child star-turned-fashion designer’s career and now, a source speaking to People magazine claims to have more insider info behind the contentious, ongoing separation.

Apparently, the couple seriously clashed over whether or not to have children as Sarkozy, who has two grown children with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard, didn’t want to have any more kids while Olsen did:
“A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed.”
The source continued:
“Olivier has two grown kids and doesn’t want more. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn’t.”
Oh no. Having a family is definitely one of those things you should be on the same page with your partner about! Despite the fact that these two were reportedly on the rocks for a while, disagreements about having kids could send even the happiest couple into disarray.
Given the pair’s nearly 20-year age difference, it’s hard to imagine this wasn’t a dealbreaker topic from the time they got together, though. The Olsen twins are notoriously private about their relationships, so we don’t exactly know when MK started having baby fever — but at 33 years old with a lucrative fashion, television, and film career under her belt, you can understand why she might’ve felt this way!
However, it wasn’t only children that drove the fashion mogul and her hubby apart! The outlet’s insider claims the two also clashed over their differing lifestyles, noting Olivier is quite the social butterfly for his age:
“Olivier is a party boy and a big spender. He loves the high life.”
Mary-Kate, on the other hand, usually prefers to keep it low key, giving her free time and energy to the two clothing brands she runs with her twin sister Ashley Olsen:
“Mary-Kate prefers to be quiet and alone and doing the things she likes. She’s not that interested in socializing—she likes small gatherings with select people. They ended up being apart quite a bit.”
It’s interesting because a different insider told E! News that Sarkozy was quite traditional and wanted his wife “to be more available” for him amid her busy schedule, but according to this new report, he’s not exactly waiting at home for her by the fire, either! Not to be ageist here, but we’re starting to wonder who was the more mature one in this partnership…
