Whoa, this feud just went from letting off steam on Twitter to someone legit getting FIRED — at least that’s how it looks from the outside right now.
We knew Chrissy Teigen had millions of fans, but does she have so much power in the food world that even the New York Times serves at her majesty’s displeasure? Could be!
Because after the Chrissy’s Court judge issued a verdict on Alison Roman‘s controversial comments about her, the food writer’s column seems to have been 86ed from the NY Times‘ menu!

Sources inside the paper of record told The Daily Beast on Tuesday afternoon Alison and her column were “on temporary leave” from the paper following the scuffle with the social media queen. And while they did use the word “temporary” they did NOT give a time period for the… suspension we guess? Man, that makes it sound like she had to turn in her badge and her spatula.
Anyway, it doesn’t sound good for Roman. While being put “on leave” isn’t technically firing, it can often be the language companies use these days when they want to let someone go without making a big scene.
Um… too late?
Alison lit the fuse when she spoke about Chrissy in an interview with The New Consumer, saying:
“What Chrissy Teigen has done is so crazy to me. She had a successful cookbook. And then it was like: Boom, line at Target. Boom, now she has an Instagram page that has over a million followers where it’s just, like, people running a content farm for her. That horrifies me and it’s not something that I ever want to do. I don’t aspire to that.”
The words cut deeply for Chrissy, who was apparently a big fan of Alison’s — and even said in her lengthy Twitter response that she had “signed on to executive produce” a series for her.
Criticism came from far and wide from those on Team Teigen, including many celebs. An extra layer of controversy stemmed from the fact Chrissy and Marie Kondo, whom she also mentioned in the profile, were both successful women of color.
Alison apologized, writing:
“I need to learn, and respect, the difference between being unfiltered and honest vs. being uneducated and flippant. The burden is not on them (or anyone else) to teach me, and I’m deeply sorry that my learning came at Chrissy and Marie’s expense. They’ve worked extremely hard to get where they are, and both deserve better than my tone deaf remarks.”
At the time it mostly seemed like Chrissy wanted to get past things. But the Internet doesn’t forget so easily.
According to DB‘s inside sources, Alison had a column all set to go around the time of the controversy, and that too was shelved. We’ll just have to wait and see if getting on Chrissy’s bad side is indeed enough to get you canned like cranberry sauce.
