From the moment Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their historic announcement about stepping away from their Royal positions, the family has been quite clearly in a state of chaos.
Right away Queen Elizabeth II called an emergency meeting, and the sense many have gotten from everything we’ve heard is this was an incredibly tense situation.
For one, the Duke and Duchess reportedly made the announcement without the knowledge — or the blessing — of Her Majesty, something she all but confirmed with her terse response statement! Prince Charles in particular was described as “livid” over both the decision AND the ambush-style execution. And of course the rift between Harry and Prince William is well-documented, so that friction couldn’t have cooled matters.

However, now that everything is over we’re being told the entire ordeal was actually completely chill. Um, what??
Yep, a new Royal source tells ET:
“The discussions were all extremely friendly and constructive because the common goal was clear as was the desire to reach a successful conclusion. Everyone is pleased.”
After all that bedlam, they just sat down and politely had tea and discussed public funding options? Hmm, we’re not sure we’re buying that. We can’t help but wonder if the Royals are trying to put out this PR fire once and for all.
But who knows, perhaps they kept calm and carried on and really did sit behind closed doors for a week laughing and talking about Canadian exchange rates.
Oh, speaking of loonies, let’s talk about how Harry and Meghan are going to make their money. We know from the Queen’s public announcement over the weekend the couple will no longer get any public funding, but the business opportunities have been abundant. However, this new source is also rebutting a huge piece of news on that front:
“[Harry and Meghan] currently have no commercial agreements already signed or in the pipeline. The spirit of this agreement allows them to pursue financial independence but they’ve made it clear everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.”
Huh?! What about Meghan’s voiceover deal with Disney?! Are they saying that isn’t concrete yet? By saying it isn’t “in the pipeline” they seem to be refuting the story altogether. But we know from our own eyes Harry was pitching that to Bob Iger himself back at the Lion King premiere last Summer.
This insider did confirm one tidbit — this deal is subject to review after a year:
“There is scope for the family to review how it operates in a year’s time.”
Hmm. What do YOU think about this new inside info. Is it correcting the record? Or trying to sell a shiny, happy version of what we’ve all watched go down?
