Brad Pitt may not have been able to attend the BAFTAs on Sunday evening, but he still made sure his jokes were heard!
The 56-year-old was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood, though co-star Margot Robbie was the one to physically take home the prize and give an acceptance speech, which caught the attention of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

As you may already be aware, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend the annual show because Will is president of BAFTA. On their @kensingtonroyal Instagram account yesterday, they penned:
“The Duke is President of BAFTA, with 2020 marking the 10th year of his presidency. During the ceremony, The Duke presented film producer Kathleen Kennedy with the Fellowship, BAFTA’s highest accolade. After the ceremony, The Duke and Duchess met the winners of the 27 awards categories, including Renée Zellweger who won the award for Leading Actress.”
Obviously, all eyes were on the royal pair as they sat front and center for the ceremony, especially when a joke about Megxit was made. As you’re likely well aware, the term regarding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s decision to step down from their roles as senior royal family members was inspired by Brexit, the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union which just went into place on January 31.
However, it may be a bit too soon to be joking about Megxit or Brexit for Will and Kate! Reading Pitt’s speech on his behalf, Margot shared with the crowd that Pitt is:
“going to name this [award] Harry because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him.”
Of course, the camera panned to the parents of three, who were seen awkwardly laughing along with the audience.
But that wasn’t the only joke he made! Via Robbie, the father of six also joked about Brexit and living the single life, something he’s made mention of in a few other award season speeches, and even hinted at his divorce settlement:
“Hey, Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club. Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement.”
