Robin Williams’ Daughter Shares Emotional Message Ahead Of Anniversary Of His Death: ‘Keep Fighting’

Robin Williams‘ daughter is putting some space between herself and the noise on social media.

Tuesday marks the sixth anniversary of the legendary comedic actor’s death  — August 11, 2014 — and his 31-year-old daughter Zelda Williams isn’t too keen on reliving the event online.

In a Monday afternoon post to her official Twitter account about the subject, the younger Williams opened up a bit about what it’s like to hear from the Dead Poets Society star’s fans even now years after his death. Noting the outsized role the anniversary plays for those remembering the legendary actor’s life and work, Zelda wrote that she was logging off social media for the time being:

“Tomorrow is Dad’s death anniversary. As always, I will not be here. It’s hard for me on regular, good day to remain the person expected to graciously accept the world’s need to share their memories of him and express their condolences for his loss. As I’ve said in the past, while I am constantly touched by all your boundless continued love for him, some days it can feel a bit like being seen as a roadside memorial — a place, not a person — where people drive past and leave their sentiments to then go about their days comforted their love for him was witnessed.”

The actress continued from there, adding an inspirational and hopeful final message to followers who may be struggling themselves at this point:

“But sometimes. that leaves me emotionally buried under a pile of others’ memories instead of my own. After all, even roses by the truckload still weigh a ton. Tomorrow, it is simply too much. In my stead, if you find yourself in crisis and seek out this page hoping to be close to him somehow, please, use any of the following resources if you find you need them. Whoever out there needs to hear it, please use this as your signpost in the desert. Reach out. Seek help. Keep fighting.”

Wow. So much thought — and so much heart — went into that well-said statement. Here it is in full, online (below):

Powerful… Ever the thoughtful, concerned ally, Zelda also shared a series of crisis hotlines and other contacts people could use should they find themselves struggling with a mental health issue of their own:

Helpful stuff! It almost doesn’t feel like the Ms. Doubtfire star died by suicide six years ago today. The elder Williams, who was 63 at the time of his death in 2014, was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia when he passed — a type of brain disease that affected his thinking, memory, and movement control. Clearly, even six years later, his passing is still a singularly tragic occurrence for Zelda, and it likely will be for the rest of her life. Sending her so much love, light, and emotional support right now during this time of difficult memories…
