Is ScarJo forreal right now??

Scarlett Johansson has been known to make some controversial comments in the past, but this one might take the cake as being the most straight-up ridiculous.

In a recent sit-down with Parade, she spoke about her career, love life, motherhood, and more, including why she considers herself a “second choice” actress. Specifically, she mentions being chosen for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel franchise because Emily Blunt wasn’t available:

“Since a very young age, I’ve been rejected constantly…the best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something and then you get it. You appreciate it more. I’ve basically made a career out of being second choice.”

We don’t know the ins and outs of the casting decisions for all of her flicks, but keep in mind that this is the same actress who was nominated twice in the same category for two different roles (Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit) at the Academy Awards this year.

Previously, Yahoo Movies spoke with Blunt and husband John Krasinski about their choices to turn down roles in the MCU. In addition to her potential role as Black Widow, scheduling issues also prevented Blunt from accepting the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, which went to Hayley Atwell. The Office alum was once in the running to play Captain America, and told the outlet:

“There are benefits, and Chris Evans seems to be having a wonderful time. I love Chris, I’ve been a friend of his for a while. Those movies are so much fun and I love watching them, I tell him I’m first in line to see his new movies. It’s that zen thing of let life take you where it may and I never would have been here if I had gotten ‘Captain America.'”

But back to ScarJo! Her role of Natasha Romanoff in the popular flicks was incredibly life-changing, she explained:

“When we did Iron Man, I didn’t know if the audience would like my interpretation of the character.”

It was during the production of The Avengers in 2012 while filming a scene with the original six Avengers — Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and the Hulk — that she realized this was something very special:

“It’s the iconic hero shot. We were all thinking, ‘This is crazy!’ because these worlds were coming together. We’re still processing how much of an impact these movies have had.”
