The moment many of us have been waiting for is here – Saturday Night Live tackled Donald Trump’s indictment!
This week’s episode of the late-night sketch comedy series did not hold when roasting the hell out of the 76-year-old former president and his criminal case! For the cold open, viewers saw the return of SNL cast member James Austin Johnson’s impression of Trump. And considering the show landed on April 1, AKA April Fools Day, there was bound to be a practical joke or two from him throughout the skit! Johnson’s Trump started by saying:
“It’s me, hi. I’m the problem. Well, folks, I got indicted. Or as I spell it, indicated. It’s time I come clean and admit I broke the law and go quietly to prison. April Fools!”

Afterward, Johnson as Trump soon announced his new idea to grab money from his supporters by releasing… music. Yep, albums of 30 classic covers called “NOW That’s What I Call My Legal Defense Fund” and “Trump Bopz.” You can ch-ch-check out the entire cold open (below):
For the show, viewers saw Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson host for the first time over the weekend. She first took to the Studio 8H stage on Saturday to perform her opening monologue, during which she called out the popular sitcom Friends for its lack of diversity while comparing her series:
“Except instead of being about a group of friends, it’s about a group of teachers. And instead of New York, it’s in Philadelphia. And instead of not having Black people — it does.”
Besides getting a dig in at Friends, she also took a moment to get serious and remind everyone “how important teachers are, acknowledge the work they do every day and for the love of God, pay them the money they deserve.” Hell yes! See the entire opening monologue (below):
Quinta’s first sketch of the night started with two men in a nightclub bathroom looking to buy some cocaine – but only wanted something that is “pure.” They are immediately approached by a man who claims his product is “so pure white it’s like a bunny rabbit making snow angels on a cloud.” Quinta’s character then interjects into the conversation to let them know her stuff is better, saying “my stuff is so white it’s like Gwyneth Paltrow skiing in Utah.” To which the other guy fires back, noting “my cocaine is so pure white it’s like the guy that’s suing Gwyneth Paltrow.” LOLz! We knew SNL was going to mock this ski crash trial at some point! See what happens in this back-and-forth deal (below):
Elsewhere, SNL gave the audience a look at the fake documentary about “a harrowing new cult story” called I Was a Bridesmaid, where (as you can guess) deep dives into the stories of former bridesmaids who were trapped in the expensive and wild ride of a friend’s nuptials. Ch-ch-check it out (below):
Too funny!
Moving on to the “Weekend Update”… Things seemed to be business as usual for hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost as they, of course, went back and forth to deliver some jokes about the headlines surrounding Trump’s indictment. However, there was a problem during Colin’s portion of the segment! Whenever he dropped the punchline of the joke, he received only a few claps and chuckles from the crowd. But when it was Michael’s turn? The audience roared with laughter – which confused Colin so much! Eventually, Michael admitted that he “told them not to laugh at you for April Fools.” OMG! Blushing and covering his face, Colin could not believe he fell for the prank, saying:
“I was truly like, ‘Am I not miked?’ And then I was like, ‘Oh, I just suck.’ God, you’re evil! That’s the meanest thing you’ve ever done to me. … I’m covered in sweat.”
Ha! Colin had a hard time recovering after that prank. See the hilarious moment (below):
What a night, Perezcious readers! You can ch-ch-check out the rest of the sketches and the performances from musical guest Lil Yachty featuring Diana Gordon (below):
